Anyone else using Vonage? I am thinking of signing up but I had a question. I noticed on the signup that you have to buy a router. Do they offer anything else if you all ready have a router? thanks.

Hello,
I found that they didn't have anything else. I had two routers already, and had to take their's. But I had a good deal with them at sign up so I didn't care either. Now I just have the wireless router hooked through their router. I definitely like their service.

well, I went ahead and signed up. the vt300 is the unit I got and from the installation instructions it looks as if I can just hook it in to my router.

ouch, a bit too late for me. I found a company called Zingotel that charged $14.95 for voip calling, unlimited U.S. and Canada and they give you the necessary router, cheaper than Vonage and possibly better. I am switching over on Monday so I'll be able to give a report by the, oh and the first moth is free.

I love Vonage, it gives me a vertual number in the US so my American friends can call me on long distance for free. The only problems are that apparently people hear some high pitched squeaks occasionally, but I guess that's a problem with VOIP in general.

Yeah I've been using it now for about 3 days and so far so good, I hadn't herd any real sound quality issues yet. and I did some major downloading on the net while on a phone call and that didn't effect it any!
I got a vertual number as well in my gf's area code so her parents would be able to call us and it not be ld. that is cool about getting a number in the uk, I hadn't thought of that. grin

I have Vonage too and I want to take it with me on road trips and use Wireless Hotspots to make calls. How would I do this? I am going to have to somehow sign into a providers page, and then get my vonage box to realize that it's on that special account. Can someone give me some ideas?

unfortunately, I don't think you could do this with hotspots very easily. don't knwo an ything about soft phone. when I go away, I point the vonage number to my cell.
